Since its creation in 2017, FIA Formula 2 has occupied a central position in the international single-seater development ladder. Created from the transformation of the GP2 Series, the championship has become one of the final steps before Formula 1 and has provided a platform for several generations of drivers who would later reach the highest level of motorsport.
Review Formula 2 2029 documents the 2029 season session by session while placing the new campaign within thirteen seasons of championship history, from 2017 to 2029. The book brings together race results, drivers, teams, circuits and statistics, making it possible to follow the evolution of the championship from one season to the next.
The inaugural FIA Formula 2 season was won by Charles Leclerc with PREMA, before George Russell succeeded him in 2018 with ART Grand Prix. The championship’s subsequent roll of honour includes Nyck de Vries, Mick Schumacher, Oscar Piastri, Felipe Drugovich, Théo Pourchaire and Gabriel Bortoleto. F2 has also been an important step for drivers such as Lando Norris, Alexander Albon, Pierre Gasly, Antonio Giovinazzi, Yuki Tsunoda, Guanyu Zhou, Logan Sargeant and Oliver Bearman.
The 2017 grid already featured several drivers who would become established names in the category, including Artem Markelov, Oliver Rowland, Luca Ghiotto, Nicholas Latifi, Antonio Fuoco and Sergio Sette Câmara. Over the years, the circuits, teams and generations of cars have evolved, while the fundamental purpose of the championship has remained unchanged: to expose young drivers to the level of competition required to progress towards Formula 1.
The FIA Formula 2 format combines practice and qualifying with Sprint and Feature races, providing multiple opportunities to score points during a race weekend. Running alongside Formula 1 Grands Prix, the category has become a valuable observatory for the future talents of motorsport. The current generation competes with the car introduced in 2024, developed with new objectives in terms of safety, competition and accessibility.
Like the previous editions, Review Formula 2 2029 is not a journalistic account of the season. It is an archive designed to preserve results and facilitate consultation, comparison and research. This edition continues the Red Books collection dedicated to FIA Formula 2, adding another season to the championship history documented since 2017.
