Created in 2019, FIA Formula 3 has established itself as one of the major categories in the international single-seater development ladder. Positioned between Formula Regional and FIA Formula 2, it gives young drivers a high-level stage before progressing towards the higher categories and Formula 1.
Review Formula 3 2028 documents the 2028 season session by session while bringing together the results from the ten seasons contested since the championship was created in 2019. The book combines detailed coverage of a new season with a historical archive that makes it possible to compare results and follow the evolution of the championship over a full decade.
The inaugural 2019 season was won by Robert Shwartzman with PREMA Racing, ahead of Marcus Armstrong and Jehan Daruvala. Since that first edition, FIA Formula 3 has provided a platform for successive generations of young drivers coming from karting, Formula 4 and Formula Regional. Robert Shwartzman, Oscar Piastri, Liam Lawson, Dennis Hauger and many other drivers have used the category as a step towards FIA Formula 2 and, for some, Formula 1.
The results from these ten seasons provide a way to follow different generations of drivers, the teams they represented and the circuits visited by the championship. Melbourne, Monaco, Barcelona-Catalunya, Spielberg, Silverstone, Spa-Francorchamps, Budapest and Monza are among the iconic venues associated with FIA Formula 3. Competing within the Formula 1 Grand Prix environment gives the championship international exposure and regularly places its young drivers on the same circuits and under the same demanding conditions as the higher categories.
The new generation of single-seaters introduced in 2025 also marked an important evolution for the championship, with developments focused in particular on safety and racing quality. This change forms part of the broader history of a category whose role within the FIA single-seater pyramid has continued to strengthen since 2019.
