Since its creation in 2019, FIA Formula 3 has occupied a central position in the international single-seater development ladder. The championship forms the third level of the FIA pathway, between Formula Regional and FIA Formula 2, and runs on the same weekends as Formula 1 and Formula 2. This structure makes it possible to follow, season after season, the development of young drivers aiming to progress towards the higher categories.
Review Formula 3 2026 looks back at this recent history by bringing together the results from the eight seasons covered, from 2019 to 2026, while providing a detailed record of the 2026 season. The inaugural championship was won by Robert Shwartzman after a season in which he finished ahead of Marcus Armstrong and Jehan Daruvala. With 212 points, the PREMA driver became the first FIA Formula 3 champion.
Over the following seasons, Formula 3 became a genuine observatory for future Formula 1 talent. Robert Shwartzman, Marcus Armstrong, Jehan Daruvala, Jüri Vips, Oscar Piastri, Liam Lawson and Dennis Hauger are among the generations of drivers who came through the category. The 2026 season represents the eighth campaign of the championship and features meetings at Melbourne, Monaco, Barcelona, Spielberg, Silverstone, Spa-Francorchamps, Budapest, Monza and Madrid. The Bahrain meeting was cancelled, while Madrid hosts FIA Formula 3 for the first time in September.
The season also marks the second year of competition for the new generation of single-seater introduced in 2025. The championship remains integrated into Formula 1 and Formula 2 weekends, maintaining FIA Formula 3’s role as a direct stepping stone towards the higher categories.
