Thirteen seasons tracing the history of Formula E

Launched in 2014, Formula E marked a major turning point in motorsport history as the world’s first fully electric single-seater world championship. The first-ever E-Prix took place in Beijing on 13 September 2014, with Lucas di Grassi taking the victory. At the end of the inaugural 2014-15 season, Nelson Piquet Jr. became the first Formula E champion after a championship contested over 11 races in 10 cities.

Review Formula E 2026-27 documents the 2026-27 season session by session while also bringing together the results from the thirteen seasons covered by the book, from 2014-15 to 2026-27. This approach makes it possible to follow the latest season while preserving a complete historical perspective on a championship that has evolved significantly since its beginnings.

From the early battles between Nelson Piquet Jr., Sébastien Buemi, Lucas di Grassi and Sam Bird to the generations of drivers and manufacturers that followed, Formula E has progressively built its own sporting heritage. Renault e.dams, Audi Sport ABT, DS, Jaguar, Porsche, Nissan, Mahindra and many other manufacturers and teams have contributed to this evolution, while street circuits in Hong Kong, Paris, New York, Rome, Berlin, London, Monaco, Mexico City and São Paulo have helped shape the identity of the championship.

The 2026-27 season opens a new chapter with the arrival of the GEN4 generation. The new single-seater is designed to take Formula E to another level in terms of power and performance, with permanent all-wheel drive, up to 450 kW in Race Mode and 600 kW in Attack Mode. The car is expected to exceed 335 km/h and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in around 1.8 seconds.

This technical evolution also comes with an important change to the calendar. The 2026-27 season is set to feature a record 21 races across 13 events and 11 countries, including new venues in Austin, Zandvoort and Brands Hatch. Monaco remains on the calendar with two races on 1 and 2 May 2027, while the season is scheduled to conclude in Tokyo in July 2027.

The sporting format is also evolving with the introduction of E-PrixUnleashed at selected double-header weekends, complementing the traditional E-Prix format. This new concept accompanies Formula E’s transition into the GEN4 era and illustrates the successive changes the championship has undergone since 2014.

The book brings these different dimensions together in a single archive: sessions, races, results, drivers, teams, circuits and statistics. It allows readers to find a result, compare different seasons, follow a driver’s career or measure the evolution of Formula E through its successive generations of single-seaters.

Like the other Reviews in the Red Books collection, this book is not a journalistic account of the season. It is designed as a physical reference archive, preserving the data and history of a championship that is still young but already spans thirteen seasons.
